Bertha Blevins

Bertha Mae Pennington Blevins of Ashland passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2014, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.







She was born in Lawrence County on Nov. 19, 1925, the daughter of the late Oscar and Virgie Cooksey Pennington.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Glen Blevins; brothers Wesley, Clyde, Willard, Earnest, James and Luke; and sisters Lottie, Elizabeth, Edna and Dorthy.

Bertha was a loving homemaker and mother who cherished her family and friends. She had a strong positive influence on the grandchildren she helped raise. Her deep Christian faith and values were evident through her devotion to her Lord and Savior Jesus.

For the past few years she resided at the King's Daughters & Sons Home in Ashland, where she enjoyed socializing with the caring staff and other residents, especially her best friend, Teddy Collins.

She is survived by a son, Daniel H. Blevins (Marsha) of Ashland; daughters Glenna Young (Maxwell) of Lexington and Karen Blevins of Ashland; a grandson, Dr. Marshall Glen Blevins (Kara) of Ashland; granddaughters Vikki Young Franklin (Jeff) of Lexington and Allison Blevins Crabb (Ryan) of Cincinnati; four precious great-grandchildren, Curtis and Ella Franklin and Leah and Rachel Blevins; and a sister, Myrtle.

The funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, at Neal Funeral Home on Center Street in Catlettsburg. Final rest will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum in Ashland.

Friends may call after 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Garrett Chapel Methodist Church, 14998 Ky. 3 N., Louisa, KY 41230. Bertha was a member of Garrett Chapel for more than 70 years.
