Bounthanh Khounlavong, 73, of Ashland, formerly of Vientiane, Laos, died Sept. 15, 2011, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born June 5, 1938, to the late Phia Mang and Nang Phia Ha Khounlavong in Luang Prabang, Laos. He was a former colonel on the DEA National Laos Police Force from 1970 through 1977 and a corporate security specialist for Ashland Inc. from 1977 through 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Nang Savanna Abhay Khounlavong; a son, Thanhprasong Khounlavong; daughters Savandalay Khounlavong Baker and husband Van, Savandalone Khounlavong and Phonesavanh Khounlavong; brothers Douangphanh Khounlavong and family and Khamla Khounlavong and family; sisters Bounmy Rathida and family and Douangpy Niravong and family; and grandchildren Jordan Edward Bounsavanh Baker, Eryn Kannika Khounlavong, Ryan Lee Thanhprasith Khounlavong, Madeline Kay Malisavanh Khounlavong, Tyriq Kavone Mitpaseuth Duckwyler and Blake Allen Phonepraseuth Hester.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
