Carl Elwood Hood, 84, of Westwood, husband of Wilma Hood, went to be with his Lord on Monday, April 23, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
Carl was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Ashland, to the late Isaac Newton and Ruth Winford Renfroe Hood.
Carl retired from the C&O Railroad Car Shops with 43 years of service. He was a faithful member of Westwood Christian Church, a Little League and Minor League coach, a charter member of the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Fred M. Gross Lodge 953, F&AM. Carl was an Eagle Scout and Scoutmaster of Armco Troop 114 and had three sons who are Eagle Scouts.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by a brother, William Bradford Hood.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Wilma Jean Porter Hood; five children, Larry Michael Hood (Annette) of Deltona, Fla., Carl David Hood (Kathy), Timothy Brian Hood (Terri), Alan Lee Hood (Brenda) and Carla Jean Hunt (Scott), all of Ashland; 12 grandchildren, Michele Hood Kokai, T.J. Hood, Chrissy Riddle, Andy Hood, Tristan Hood, Ashleigh Hood, Zach Hood, Cassandra Hunt, Shelbie Hood, Gabriela Castellon, Armando Diaz and Martina Schrader; six great-grandchildren, Madison Kokai, Christian Kokai, Austin Riddle, Caleb Riddle, Josiah Hood and Stella Hood; a sister, Carmine Yvonne Hood Nagle of Westerville, Ohio; and numerous extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Westwood Christian Church by Dean Jackson, minister. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood and an hour before services Thursday at the church.
