CHARLES SALYERS

October 29, 1929 — January 2, 2017

Charles B. Salyers, 87, of Catlettsburg, went to be with the Lord Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at his home following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Webbville, a son of the late General Dewey and Charlotte Slone Salyers. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marissa; and a daughter-in-law, Linda. Mr. Salyers was a Christian, an Army veteran of the Korean War and was retired from the Boyd County School system. He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as gardening and watching Kentucky basketball. He was the husband of his loving wife of 61 years, Wilma Barker Salyers of Catlettsburg; he was the father of four daughters, Barb Miniard and her husband, Eddie Joe, of Catlettsburg, Irene Walker and her husband, Phillip Cavendar, of Columbia, S.C., Gretta Garvin and her husband, Todd, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Ruth Castle and her husband, Scott, of Lexington; four sons, Charles E. Salyers and his wife, Diana, of Rush, Roger Salyers and his wife, Linda, of Catlettsburg, Don Salyers and his wife, Cheryl, of Rush, and Tom Salyers and his wife, Sandy, of Walton. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by Jack Salyers. Burial will in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland with full military graveside rites. Friends may call form 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
