Donald Eugene "Bill" Caines (1927-2010)
Donald Eugene "Bill" Caines of Ashland left us Friday, March 19, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Ashland, Ky., to the late James E. Caines and Stella Williams Caines. He was in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.
Bill retired from the C&O and Amtrak Railroad after 44 years of dedicated work. He was also a member of the Ashland Elks Post 350 for 50 years and Ashland American Legion Post 76 for 22 years, where he and wife Shirley loved and laughed with friends and family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers James Caines Jr., George Caines and Haskell Caines; and sisters Alberta Evans, Virginia Barker, Thelma Tolliver and Henrietta Abbott.
He is survived by his sweetheart of 65 years, Shirley; two children, a son, Bill "Butch" Caines and wife Sherry and a daughter, Connie Caudill and friend Walter Miller, both of Ashland; sisters, Betty Ashley, Bobbie Staton and Margaret Ann and husband Howard Hanks, all of Ashland; 6 grandchildren, Richard Caines and friend Heather Beechem of Ashland, Hollie Caines of Fla., Bobby and wife Sha Marcum of Ind., Paul Marcum of Ind., Crystal and husband Jason Davis of Danville, Ky. and Hillary and husband Johnathon Whitehouse of Danville, Ky.; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Lazear Funeral Home Chapel in Ashland. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, 5270 13th Street in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at the funeral home. Services will be by grandson Bobby Marcum.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Community Hospice Care Center, 2330 Pollard Road, Ashland, KY 41101.
