Eddie Devaney

March 1, 1947 — July 22, 2018

After only eight days without his best friend and the love of his life, on July 22, surrounded by his loving
family Eddie Devaney 71, left his earthly home and went to join his wife in their heavenly home after a
hard fought battle with cancer. He was born in Huntington, WV to the late Thomas Devaney and Edna
Moore.
Eddie worked hard all of his life. He retired from the US Postal Service as a rural mail carrier, and the
City of Ashland transportation department. After his retirement, he moved on to his favorite job of all
"Director of extra-curricular activities" at "Mam's school" where he taught courses in flea market
haggling, canasta, and planned countless field trips to Gattiland and to Central park to feed the fish and
squirrels.
Eddie never knew a stranger. Once you met him, he became a friend. He had an infectious smile and
laugh and he was kind to all people, and stray animals. He was an amazing father to his kids. He spent
many hours coaching, cheering, and encouraging them and his grandchildren.
Eddie was an active member of Oak Street FWB church in Flatwoods for over 40 years where he served
as a bus driver, deacon, youth leader, and VBS worker. He was an avid bowler and participated in many
different leagues.
His loving wife of 54 years, Rita Devaney, as well as his brothers, Charles Devaney, Marvin Devaney,
Jerry "Mike" Devaney, and Danny Devaney Sr preceded him in death.
He is survived by his six children, Dawn Rose (Shawn) of Ironton, OH, Kimberly (Jeff) Duty of
Wurtland, Vanessa (Charlie) Akers of Ashland, Tonya (Jamie) Campbell of Flatwoods, Danny (Brigette)
Devaney of Flatwoods, and Jacob Devaney at home. He also leaves behind 12 grand children: Amber,
Brian, Heather, Holli, Cameron, Mykayla, Cynthia Johnathon, Isaac, Eli, Caleb, and Hannah and one
great grandchild, Silas. He also leaves behind brothers Earl Devaney, Bobby Devaney, and Dale
Devnaey, and one sister, Elizabeth Ofill.
His services will be held 12:00 PM Friday, July 27, 2018 at Caniff funeral home in Westwood with
Shawn Rose, Jamie Campbell and Cameron Akers officiating. Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery
following the services. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home from 6-8.
