Elma Dickison

Elma Jewell Dickison, 92, of Ashland, widow of Charley Dickison, went to be with her Lord, Saturday morning, Aug. 4, 2012, after an extended illness.

Elma was born June 3, 1920, in Riceville, a daughter of the late Wayne and Elsie Patrick Rice.

She was a retired nursing assistant with the State TB Hospital in Ashland. She was a 50+ year member of Order of Eastern Star, formerly attending the Ashland Chapter, a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of First Baptist Church of Russell.

In addition to her parents, Elma was preceded in death by her husband, Charley Dickison; one son, Bennie Wayne Dickison; one sister, Opal Valentine; and two brothers, Edward J. Rice and Howard Rice.

Survivors include, one son, Raymond A. Dickison (wife Linda) of Ashland; one daughter, Phyllis A. Howard (husband Harold) of Russell; three sisters, Garnet Cook of Dayton, Ohio, Lydia Barker of Georgetown and Betty Hale of Ashland; six grandchildren, Jean Ann Vawter (Susan Etcherling) of Mooresville, N.C., Renee Howard Morgan (husband Jim) of Bardstown, Randy Howard (wife Missy) of Ashland, Amy Dickison Boggs (husband Shawn) of Ashland, Ray Dickison (wife Angie) of Crestwood and Bennie Dickison (wife Amy) of Ashland; 15 great-grandchildren, Joshua Duley (wife Elaine) of Villa Hill, Carra Duley Surgalski (husband Mark) of Russell, Katie Vawter of Florence, S.C., Courtney Vawter of Nashville, Tenn., Lauren Vawter of Mooresville, N.C., Ben Dickison of Crestwood, Blake Dickison of Crestwood, Evan Boggs of Ashland, Alex Boggs of Ashland, Elaina Boggs of Ashland, Madeline Howard of Destin, Fla., Dawson Howard of Destin, Fla., Jarrett Morgan of London, Justin Morgan of London and Kaylee Jewell Dickison of Ashland; a very special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Hallie and Bill Earley of Russell; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at noon Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at First Baptist Church of Russell by the Rev. Ken Gowin. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood is in charge of arrangements.
