Eloise Meigs

Eloise J. Meigs, 89, of Ashland, passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at her residence.

Mrs. Meigs was born May 11, 1923, in Notasulga, Ala., a daughter of the late John T. and Corra Lynch Johnson.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Lamar C. Meigs, in 1995; brothers Lynch, Tom, Harold and D.A. Johnson; and a sister, Lilly Mae Howell.

Eloise was of the Baptist faith and attended Calvary Episcopal Church in Ashland. She was a founding board member of the Ashland Community Kitchen, an active member of the Boyd County Medical Alliance and named "Outstanding Mother of the Year" in Alabama. She was a recipient of the prestigious Walter L. Cawood Award for Medical Education and Leadership in 2002 and was a Kentucky colonel. She attended Auburn University.

Survivors include her children, C.J. Meigs-Moore of Colorado Springs (late husband Mike), Patricia Meigs Pitt and husband Ernie of Ashland and Jim Meigs and wife Patti of Crystal Lake, Ill.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Matt Moore and wife Alicia and children Jerry Michael and Harper Eloise; Meighan White and husband Brad; and Nathan Meigs and wife Amber and children Rowan Virginia and Holden Joseph.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 5, 2013, at Calvary Episcopal Church by Mother T.J. Azar. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel.
