Frances Gibbs

Frances Susan Simpson Gibbs, loved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed from this life Friday, July 6, 2012. She was born April 18, 1918, to Joseph and Maude Simpson near Rush, she was the last survivor of her 12 brothers and sisters. Her siblings were, Arthur Simpson, Blanche Simpson Kenley, Nellie Simpson, Janie Simpson Bates, Frank Simpson, Jimmy Simpson, Raymond Simpson, May Simpson Bates, Curtis Simpson, Lula Simpson Berry, Clyde Simpson and Harvey Simpson.

On March 29, 1939, Frances married Dorsie Wilson Gibbs, now deceased. They lived the majority of their lives in the Ashland area where they were members of the Campbell Drive Freewill Baptist Church. In 1979, they moved to Carthage, Mo. where Frances resided until June 2002. While in Carthage, she was an active member of the Carthage Church of God. She loved to paint and left many cherished paintings to her family and friends. The past four years, Dreama and Paul Blevins lovingly cared for her in their home. She attended the Mavity Free Will Baptist Church while with the Blevins.

Frances is survived by her four children, Janice Snyder and Gary (Jean) Gibbs of Ashland, Dreama (Paul) Blevins of Argillite and Joe (Jeanne) Gibbs of Webb City, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; plus a host of nieces, nephews and friends who loved her, were blessed by her and will miss her.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel, with Reverend Scott Blevins officiating. Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
