Francie Guyars

August 12, 1945 — July 6, 2019

Frances (Francie) Browne Guyars passed away due to complications from Alzheimer’s on July 6th 2019 at the age of 73.

A native of Ashland, Kentucky, Francie was born to Joseph Dillon and Julia (Norris) Browne. She graduated from Holy Family Catholic School where she was known, as she would always be known, for her kind heart and vivacious personality. After high school, Francie attended both Gulf Park College and the University of Kentucky receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Later she would go on to earn a Master’s Degree in Education, also from the University of Kentucky. Throughout her 20 year teaching career, she taught in many exciting places including Hawaii, Chicago, Kentucky, and Texas.

Francie loved travel and adventure. From bicycling in New Zealand and Australia, to sailing in the Gulf of Mexico, or riding motorcycles along the Blue Ridge Parkway near her home in Greenville, South Carolina. Her favorite activities seemed to be those where she could enjoy nature while the wind whipped through her hair. In her younger years she was an avid skier and was able to visit many of the famous ski areas around the United States. In quieter moments she also loved cooking, flower arranging, and sewing.

Francie is survived by her loving husband of 31 years Thomas Guyars; daughter, Samara Guyars; granddaughter, Adeline Winchell; brother, JD Browne; and her sister, Susie Susca.

She was preceded in death by her brother Norris Browne.

Francie will be interned with her parents at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, tribute donations can be made in her honor to the Alzheimer’s Association.
