Gerald Brown

Gerald David "Jerry" Brown, 71, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday, June 20, 2014 in King's Daughters Medical Center.
He was born on December 5, 1942 in Boyd County, a son of the late Edgar Brown, Jr. and Ethel Porter Brown. He was also preceded in death by his younger brother, James Michael "Mick" Brown.
Jerry graduated in 1960 from Ashland High School and served in the U.S. Air force for four years where was stationed in the Philippines during the Vietnam War.
He is survived by two brothers, Edgar Marion "Bud" Brown (Betty Lou) and Richard Allen "Dick" Brown; two sisters, Linda Elizabeth Brown and Rebecca Ann Boyd (Willis K); a sister-in-law, Bonnie J. Brown all of Ashland; and many nieces and nephews.
He is also survived by his loving friend and companion of thirty years, Hattie Kelley and her children Angel Redecker and Michael Kelley (Lisa) and his very special grandson, Harley Dale Kelley, who was the "sunshine of his life", as well as his many lifelong friends from "Boxtown".
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Jerry became a hairdresser and worked in Washington, DC before returning to Ashland where he worked as a hairdresser for many years. He loved all genres of music and could often be heard singing or whistling one of his favorite hymns. Jerry will truly be missed by his family and many friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel.
