Gloria Irene Gibbs Wenning, 80 of Ashland passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Community Hospice Care Center, her loving family at her side.
Mrs. Wenning was born May 22, 1937 in Ashland, KY to the late Buena Ester and Nannie Irene Cantrell Gibbs.
Gloria attended Ashland Schools and was a local business owner. She was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for 35 years, childrens choir teacher, and volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Gloria loved the sun, swimming, playing tennis, working in her flowers, and taking care of her grandbabies, great grandbabies, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her children, son Rick Wenning, his wife Jamie, and daughter Cheryl Hicks both of Ashland, brother Tony Gibbs, and sister Janet Marsh. Also surviving are grandchildren Sarah Pennington (Chris) of Ashland, Julie Yates (Josh) of Ashland, Cassie Mendoza (Jose) of Ashland, Kendra Burke (Tristan) of Catlettsburg, Whitney Steele (Matt) of Ashland, and Chelsea Wenning of Ashland, 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 36 years Elmer Richard Wenning , brothers Elwood Gibbs, Carl Gibbs, and Jim Gibbs, and sisters Dorla Gambill, Lou Adkins, and Wanda Dickens.
Funeral Service for Mrs. Wenning will be at 1:00pm Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Neal Funeral Home, 2409 Center Street, Catlettsburg. Pastors Paul Badgett, Matt Shamblin, and Mike Blankenship will officiate. Private committal service for the family at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visiting hours are 11:00am until service time Saturday.
