Hazel Church - 1915-2009
Hazel Ison Church, 94, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, following an extended illness.
Hazel was born Jan. 17, 1915, in Elliott County, Ky., to the late John Milton and Effie Mae Lillie Ison.
She worked at the Clayton Lambert Shell Factory during WWII. Hazel was a fifty plus year member of the Order of Eastern Star, a past worthy matron of the former Ashland Chapter 119 and a current member of Order of Eastern Star Mistletoe Chapter 144. She was a past worthy high priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem 7 of Ashland and attended Oak Springs United Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Beachal Ray Church of Ashland; a daughter, Darlynn Barber and her husband Phillip Jr. of Ashland; a son, Samuel Milton Church and his wife, Sarah Jo "Sally" of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four grandchildren, Jeremy Beachal Church, Phillip Robert Barber III, David Bryce Barber and Lisa Robin Callihan; nine great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood by Elder Mike Saunders. Order of Eastern Star services will be at 6:30 p.m. Sunday by the worthy matron and members of Order of Eastern Star Mistletoe Chapter 144. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour before the service on Monday.
