Helen Rys

Helen Loriene Deskins Rys, 78, of Morehead, formerly of Catlettsburg, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at her home with her loving family at her side.

Mrs. Rys was born April 19, 1934, in Catlettsburg, a daughter of the late Henry E. and Willa Mae Blackburn Deskins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Chet Rys, and a son, Jack Penix Jr.

Helen was the owner of Helen's Restaurant in Hammond, Ind. She enjoyed feeding birds and loved to cook. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Cannonsburg, where she attended Sunday School and sang in the choir.

Helen is survived by her daughters, Pamela Noble (Terry) of Hinton, W.Va., Rebecca Cantrell (Roy) of Morehead and Sandra Stancil of Chattanooga, Tenn.; grandchildren, Jack Penix III (Bridget), Misty Dawn Penix, Leatha Plank (Donnie), Joshua Chandler (Laura), Christopher Bond (Kathy), Aletha Clemons, Heather Johnson and Candi Fields (Roy); 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Billy Ray Deskins (Beverly) of West Union, Ohio, and Matthew Barnett (Donna) of Illinois; and her little dog, Billie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son; two sons-in-laws; sister; two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Kyle; and former husband and father of her children, Jack M. Penix.

The funeral for Mrs. Rys will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Kilgore & Collier Funeral Home in Catlettsburg. The Rev. Stan Williams will officiate and the Rev. Buddy Baker will assist. Final rest wil be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Casket bearers will be Joshua Chandler, Christopher Bond, Donnie Plank, Roy Fields, Aaron Plank and Chandler Bond.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Cannonsburg, 11512 Midland Trail Rd., Ashland, KY 41102.
