WURTLAND - Jerry "Butch" Riggs, 71, of Wurtland, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

Mr. Riggs was born July 12, 1940, in Greenup, a son of the late Edgar Riggs and Margaret Faye Fritz Sullivan.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired operator from the Coke plant and AK Steel in Ashland. He attended First Church of the Nazarene in Flatwoods.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Gail Riggs and Larry Johnson, and two sisters, Myrna Tulloch and Patricia Heckert.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joy Ann Barber Riggs; a son, Jeffrey Riggs of Wurtland; and a brother, John (Nannett) Johnson of North Augusta, S.C.

Funeral services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reed Funeral Home in Greenup by the Rev. Roger Bonzo and Brother Wayne Stephenson. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
