Mabel Johnson

Mabel Spears Johnson, 83, of Westwood, passed away, Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Community Hospice Care Center.
She was born January 21, 1930 in Magoffin County, KY, a daughter of the late Luther G. Trimble and Tellie Tackett Trimble Posey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Spears, Jr. in 1970, and her second husband, John W. "Bill" Johnson in 1997; a son, Danny Spears in 1999; a brother, Delmar Ray Trimble; and two sisters, Anna Spears and Eulah Blevins.
Mabel was a loving and devoted homemaker and was referred to as "Mother Duck" as she raised nine children who were always close behind her. She loved family game nights and had a degree in culinary arts.
She is survived by her sons, Hubert Spears of Westwood, Mitchell Spears (Kathy) of Ashland, Randall Spears (Rene) of Westwood and her stepson John G. Johnson of Florida; daughters, Judy Armstrong (Danny) of Westwood, Debra Schaffner (Fred) of Rush, Sandra Melvin of Cannonsburg, Karen Spears of Ashland and Patricia Gollihue (Eddie) of Catlettsburg; a brother James Earl Trimble (Sharon) of Lexington; sisters Arminta McIntyre Copley (Don) of Ashland and Beulah Chambers of Ashland; 28 Grandchildren, 40 Great Grandchildren and her loving companion Jimmy Shingleton of Westwood.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 18, 2013, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel, with the Reverend Brian Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 6:00-9:00 P.M. Sunday, February 17, 2013 at the funeral home.
