Mabel Johnson

April 20, 1930 — August 13, 2018

Rev. Mabel E. Johnson, 88, of Ashland, went Home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, August 13, 2018 at the Community Hospice Care Center.
She was born April 20, 1930, in Fleming County, KY, a daughter of the late William Gobel and Ola Saunders James. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Rev. Harley J. Johnson; sisters, Edna Opal Lee, and Thelma Jewel Marshall; brothers, Leonard Paul James and Ersil Faris James.
Mabel was a member of First Church of God and Purple Heart Auxiliary. She loved Christ and her Christian family that she served for 71 years. She was a pastor for the Church of God with many years of service at several local churches, along with her husband, Rev. Harley Johnson and was an Evangelist for 17 years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her daughter, Retha J. Howard of Raceland, KY; grandsons, Dustin Keith Howard (Rachael) of Winchester, KY, and Derek S. Howard (Megan) of Greenup, KY; great grandchildren, Makenna Ann Howard, Brody Easton Howard, Jones Austin Howard and Bailey Kate Howard.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018, at Steen Funeral Home Central Avenue Chapel with Rev. Becky Lawson and Pastor Steve Harris officiating. Entombment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to First Church of God, 3500 South 29th Street, Ashland, KY, 41102.
