Mary Ellen Pennington Scott, 84, of Flatwoods, widow of Harry A. Scott, died peacefully Tuesday evening in Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following a short illness.

Mary was born Dec. 25, 1927, in Boyd County, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Ethel Walker Pennington.

Mary was a member of Brush Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death, in addition to her parents and her husband, by three sons, Harold E., James A. and Randall Scott; two sisters, Lucy Globus and Rachel Broughton; and a brother, Harold "Bill" Pennington.

Surviving are two sons, Edward Lee Scott and wife Judy of Flatwoods and Harry E. Scott and wife Kathy of Summit; three daughters, Brenda Sue Jenkins and husband George of Flatwoods, Debra Conn and husband Kenneth of Russell and Mary E. Hysell and husband Mark of Flatwoods; a brother, John Paul Pennington and wife Carolyn of Danleyton; a sister, Phyllis Highfield of Morrison, Tenn.; 20 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland by Pastor Frank Hackworth. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Visitation will be after noon until services Saturday at the funeral home.
