Mary Helen Kilgore Tackett (1921-2009)
Mary Helen Kilgore Tackett, 88, of Flatwoods, Ky., with a smile on her face and arms stretched to the sky, peacefully slipped away on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at her home. She was born Sept. 17, 1921, a daughter of the late Wilford and Alice Grubb Kilgore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Woodrow "Woody" Tackett; a daughter, Regina Carol Tackett; a son, Robert "Bob" Tackett; and two sisters, Maxine Tackett and Betty Browning.
She was born and raised in Greenup County, Ky., and was a feisty, high energy lady, a homemaker who enjoyed her family and was well known for her beautiful sewing abilities. She loved her pets, especially her two cockatiels.
Surviving are her husband, Emzie McKenzie of Flatwoods; four sons and four daughters-in-law, David and Willa Tackett of Greenup, Elwood and Shirley Tackett of Greenup, Danny Joe and Robin Tackett of Ona, W.Va. and Darrell and Ann Tackett of Ashland; three daughters, Linda Reffett and Maxine Spears, both of Greenup, and Ruth Tackett and her husband Darrell Vincent of Raceland; 34 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; a loving and exceptionally close sister, Ena Nelson, and brother, Lige Kilgore, both of Greenup; and special friends, Gwen Clark and Kevin Furnish.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at Evans Funeral Home in Raceland, Ky., by the Rev. Tom Heaberline. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Sam Morgan, Tracy Brown, Steve Tackett, Eugene Tackett, Jason Poplin and her neighbor, Dennis Cochran.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
