Michael C. "Mickey" Stephens (1941-2009)
Mick Stephens, 68, of Ashland, Ky., passed away Monday, Sept. 7, 2009.
Mr. Stephens was born June 27, 1941, in Ashland. He was the son of Doris Stephens Morrison, who preceded him in death. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ike and Myrtle Stephens.
He is survived by his son, Michael Martin "Marty" Stephens, and his sister, Eddie Sheila Stephens Lambert.
Mr. Stephens is also survived by his niece, Kerstin Lambert (Jeff) Lemaster of Ashland; a nephew, Ike Matthew Lambert and wife Dana of Fort Wright, Ky.; an uncle, C.E. "Ed" (Evelyn) Stephens of Ashland; and two aunts, Mrs. Josephine Robinette of Slidell, La., and Mrs. Phyllis Bennett of Ashland. He also left behind many cousins and other extended family members.
Also surviving are his special friends, Dr. Rudy Dunnigan, Mr. Ronnie Dunnigan, Keith Wessel, Danny Griggs and Sam Houston.
After attending the University of Kentucky, Mr. Stephens worked with his grandfather and uncle's company, Ike Stephens and Son Construction Co. He was the developer and owner of T. Hill Construction Co., the owner of the Court of Three Sisters, MDM Supply and Stephens Hauling. He also worked with Addington Resources. Mr. Stephens' companies were instrumental in the development and construction of several of Ashland's landmarks.
The family will receive friends at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Sept. 10, 2009. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Holy Family Church, 900 Winchester Ave., Ashland. Services will be officiated by the Rev. John P. Noe and the eulogy will be presented by Dr. Rudy Dunnigan. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Griggs, Jeff Nichols, Greg Ross, Jeff McMonigal, Matt Lambert and Jeff Lemaster. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Rudy Dunnigan, Ronnie Dunnigan, Danny Griggs, Sam Houston and Keith Wessel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Shriners Children's Hospital of Lexington, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502.
