Neva Dora Rothwell, 86, of Ashland, passed away surrounded by her loving family in Kingsbrook Life Care Center after losing her battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born in Sitka on Dec. 10, 1926, a daughter of the late Dallas and Janie Sublett, the sixth of eight children.
She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Kelley Rothwell; an infant son, Daniel; brothers Walter, Hobert, James and Wilbur Sublett; and sisters Leilah Wheeler and Dorothy Wyatt.
She is survived by a son, Michael Rothwell of Colorado; a daughter, Nikki Rothwell of western Kentucky; a sister, Billie Meade of Paintsville; many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; her best friends of 55 years, Bill and Faye Fannin; and neighbors Don and Pam Tipton, who were as close as family.
Dora was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and was active in Woman's Missionary Union. She will be remembered by many from her days working at Dairy Cheer restaurants on 30th and 13th streets. She enjoyed quilting, shopping, reading, gardening and cooking. She was especially known for her fudge. She dearly loved all children and became honorary grandmother to many of them. In her later years she especially enjoyed traveling, having shopped her way through Savannah in the teeth of a tropical storm, and she made several treks to the Rocky Mountains. She was known for her generosity and loving smile and will be sorely missed by all. Those who knew and loved her can rejoice knowing she is at peace in the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ.
The funeral will be at noon Friday, Feb. 15 at Preston Family Funeral Home by Brother Jim Yates. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
