January 23, 1915 — June 30, 2012

Goldie Hay, 97, of Grayson, died Saturday, June 30, 2012, in King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

She was born Jan. 23, 1915, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Essie Wilson Grizzell.

Goldie was a Christian and a member of Shepherd's Chapel. She was a loving mother and grandmother who taught her children the value of hard work, love and respect for the Lord. She had a great love of gardening and preparing family dinners for her large family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur Hay, on March 20, 2001; two grandsons, Donald Keith Burton and Kevin Layne Burton; a great-grandson, Barry Edward Hale; two sons-in-law, Noah Donald Burton and Charles William Baier; four sisters, Edna Banks, Naomi Arnett, Marie Bowen and Mattie Harris; and five brothers, Hughie Grizzell, Earl Grizzell, Harlan Grizzell, Lawrence Grizzell and Wayne Grizzell.

She was also preceded in death by a dear friend who was more like a daughter, Daisy Mae Stinnett, who passed away on June 5, 2012.

She is survived by a sister, Juanita Jackson of Grayson; five daughters, Geneva Chatfield, Loretta Burton, Shirley Baier and Theresa Hays, all of Grayson, and Lynda (Jim) Jergler of Flatwoods; a son, Bill E. (Brenda) Hays of South Shore; 13 grandchildren, Vickie (Kevin) Mullins, Debra (Perry) Tussey, Randy McGuire, Donna (Barry) Hale, Jeff (Gwen) Baier and Christopher Johnson, all of Grayson, Greg (Brenda) Baier of Flatwoods, Rob (Rhonda) Hay of Sparta, Jessica (Jerry) McClahnahan of Virgina Beach, Va., Darren (Crystal) Hays of South Shore, Matthew (Laura) Jergler, Amanda (J.B.) Bowman and Adam (Theresa) Jergler, all of Ashland; 11 great-grandchildren, Brandon (Samantha) Baier and Tiffany McGuire of Cannonsburg, Shane (Jessie) Baier, Gabriel (Racheal) Baier and Chad Hall of Grayson, Sheldon (Paula) McGuire of Ezel, Kelly Burton of Lexington, Saundra (T.C) Pennington of Webbville, Lidsay Hay and Ashley (Jerrod) Wells of Garrison, and Brooklyn Hays of South Shore; seven great-great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Tyler and Laney Ann Baier of Cannonsburg, Eric Shane and Shaylynn Baier of Grayson, Caden Hay of Garrison and Maddox Wells of Garrison; a host of nieces and nephews; and many other relatives who sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hay will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by her nephew, Terry Harris. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Adam Jergler, Matt Jergler, J.B. Bowman, Jeff Baier, Gabriel Baier and Randy McGuire will be pallbearers.

Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, July 2, 2012, and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
