Richard Osborne

February 2, 1946 — July 31, 2010

ASHLAND - Richard "Rick" Osborne, 64, who focused his life and his love on his family and his church, died Saturday, July 31, 2010, after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 2, 1946, the youngest of three sons of the late Juanita and Oliver Osborne. He married the former Joyce Hood on Feb. 17, 1967. A father of three and married 43 years to Joyce, he was active both in Rose Hill Baptist Church and the Ashland Camp of Gideons International.

Even after the onset of his illness, he insisted on time with his wife and extended family, including a recent long-planned family seashore vacation. He also continued his active participation in his church Sunday school class and his work with a program of Monday night visitations. He also served as church assignment chairman for the Gideon camp. It was during his illness he developed an appreciation and taste for the soft tones of dulcimer music. He viewed his working life as necessary but secondary to his love of family and church. Before retiring from Hilltop Furniture, he had been employed at Armco Steel Corp. and later operated Rick's Body Shop.

Among his survivors, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Janis (Mrs. Chad Rule) of South Point, Ohio; two sons, Keith Osborne and Charles "Chuck" Osborne and his wife, Jana Leigh, of Ashland; grandchildren Jackson Oliver Osborne and Jacy Leigh Osborne of Ashland; and brothers David Osborne of Ashland and Burl Osborne of Dallas, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010, at Rose Hill Baptist Church by Dr. Ronnie Mayes and the Rev. Charles Stewart. Private graveside services will be at Rose Hill Burial Park.

Friends may call after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Kelly Yates, Loval McDowell, Greg Borders, Bill White, Hugh Horn, Willis Boyd, Smokey Ingram, Jim Mayhew and Randy Grizzle.

In lieu of flowers, to follow his wishes, the family asks contributions be made in his memory either to Rose Hill Christian School, 1001 Winslow Road, Ashland, KY 41102 or Gideons International, Ashland Camp, P.O. Box 188, Ashland, KY 41105-0188.
