Rupert Rice

September 9, 1925 — December 14, 2018

Rupert "Doc" Hays Rice, age 93, husband of Carol "Jackie" Rice, passed away on December 14, 2018 at Thompson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Ky.
Doc was born September 9, 1925 in Ashland, Ky. to the late Dr. William H. and Blanche Greene Rice.
He attended Ashland High School and was part of the 1942 undefeated state football champs. After graduation he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II and participated in the battle of Okinawa.
After the war he graduated from Centre College with a BA in Math and Economics. He also played football for the Colonels.
After a brief time as a high school teacher and coach, Doc went to work for Armco Steel. Before retiring, he was employed by Armco Steel as a fuel analyst.
Doc is survived by his wife Carol "Jackie" Rice; sons Randall (Debbie) Rice, Paul (Cheri) Rice and Scott (Jennifer) Rice;grandchildren Khrista Jones, Joey Kelley, Brad Rice and Savannah Rice;great grandchildren Khloe Jones, Olivia Jones and Daphne Rice.
Private services are planned for Mr. Rice.
The family has requested that contributions in memory of Rupert Hays Rice be made to the 1st. Christian Church of Ashland. Ky., 1930 Winchester Ave. Ashland, KY 41101
