Sarah Allen

Sarah Esther Sturgill Allen, 97, of Morehead, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2013, in St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead after a brief illness.

She was born on Oct. 18, 1915, in Loda, Ill., a daughter of the late James and Anna Ethel Thomas Sturgill.

Mrs. Allen was a homemaker and a member of Morehead First Christian Church. She was an avid walker and enjoyed caring for her home and family.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Allen; four brothers, James Phillip Sturgill, William Sturgill, Paul Sturgill and Charles Sturgill; and five sisters, Geneva Black, Helen Foster, Margaret Moore, Ruth Sturgill and an infant sister.

Survivors include her son, David (Virginia) Allen of South Point, Ohio; two sisters, Regina Mack and Frances Kidd, both of Morehead; three grandsons, Shawn Allen of South Point, Michael (Samantha) Allen of Columbus, Ohio, and Richard Todd (Gina) Allen of Chesapeake, Ohio; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Macy, Max, Cody, Sara Elizabeth and Mathew; special friends, Leah, Lois Spurlock and Betty Smith; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home in Morehead by the Rev. Molly Smothers.

A graveside service and burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Pallbearers will be Michael Allen, Shawn Allen, Todd Allen, Cody Allen, Nicholas Allen and Ray McClure.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
