ASHLAND - Stella W. Abrams, 94, of Melbourne Beach, Fla., formerly of Ashland, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, and went home to be with the Lord at her residence. She was born Aug. 25, 1916, in Pikeville, the daughter of the late Landon Burnette and the late Jane Owens Burnette Pack.
She was more than a 50 year member of Unity Baptist Church. She was a Kentucky Colonel. She enjoyed flowers, plants and her ocean community that she lived in but missed her relatives, neighbors and dear friends in Ashland. She loved gospel music and hearing from her church family at Unity Baptist. She was a devoted grandmother who loved her family. For more than 20 years, she was the co-owner of the former Abrams Grocery on 4th Street. She also worked for Ashland Office Supply and was a Matron with the U.S. Marshals Service.
She also was preceded in deah by her husband, Arkie Abrams; two brothers, Frank and L.A. Burnette; a half-brother, Paul Burnette; and one stepsister, Lorrianne Everhart.
Survivors include two sons, Michael D. Abrams and his wife, Pam, of Lexington, and Raymond Abrams and his wife, Tina of Melbourne Beach; four grandchildren, Ray (Laura) Abrams Jr., Melinda (Bryan) Therriault, Joe (Nina) Abrams and Brandon Abrams; and four great-grandchildren, Trey, Aria, Joey and Noah.
She will also be missed by Tucker the dog. He made her laugh every day.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday a the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to Unity Baptist Church 2320 29th Street, Ashland, KY 41101, or to Community Hospice 1538 Central Avenue, Ashland, KY 41101.
