Thelma Ellison

Thelma Arlene Chinn Ellison, 83, of Ashland, passed away Friday morning, April 20, 2012, in King's Daughters Medical Center.

She was born September 19, 1928, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Shelby and Thelma Flowers Chinn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marion Smith Ellison in 1993; a grandson, Rick Ellison on March 9, 2012; and two brothers and three sisters.

She was a devoted homemaker and a longtime member of the American Legion Post 76 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Richard Allan Ellison and wife Carolynn Sue of Ashland; two grandsons, Robert Ellison and wife Kristen of Florence and Tyler Ellison of Ashland; three step-grandchildren, Jami Tomblin and husband, Brian of Orlinda, Tenn., David Miller and Chris Miller of Chapmanville, W.Va.; two great-grandchildren, Chaz Ellison of Ashland and Ainsley Ellison of Florence and three step-great-grandchildren, Cruz, BJ and Sierra Tomblin of Orlinda, Tenn.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Ashland, by Chaplain Jimm Smedley.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at King's Daughters Medical Center's ICU for the kindness, compassion and care given to Thelma and her family during her final days.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY, 41101.
