RUSH - Thelma L. Ghee, 82, of Rush, passed on to be with her awaiting loved ones on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was the last of 10 children born to William M. and Virgie M. Chaffin to accompany her family in heaven. She was born on Straight Creek in Boyd County on March 10, 1929.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Harper of Ashland; two grandsons, William Michael Nelson (Amy) of Ashland and Tim Nelson of Ashland; a granddaughter, Evelyn "Evy" Herrell of East Windsor, N.J.; and four great-grandchildren, Thomas James Herrell, Shauna Suzanne Nelson, Harley Scott Herrell and Jessica Hope Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edsel Ghee, in 1993; her mother and father; brothers Luther Chaffin, Lewis Chaffin and George "Duck" Chaffin; and sisters Gladys Chaffin, Ruthie Chaffin, Cora Chaffin Fannin, Fannie Chaffin McGranahan, Vannie Chaffin Forbis and Leona Chaffin Griffith, whom she missed so very dearly. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews and a host of friends who knew her as "Momaw G."
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland. Mickey King will officiate the services, and Rodney Adkins will offer words of comfort.
Pallbearers will be Mike Nelson, Tim Nelson, Mike McCoy, Marty McGranahan, Thomas Herrell and Harley Herrell.
