Walter Richard Starks - 1923-2007
Walter Richard Starks, 83, of Ashland, Ky., died Wednesday evening, May 23, 2007, in New Boston, Ohio, after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
Mr. Starks was born Sept. 6, 1923, in Ashland, a son of the late Everett Richard and Sallie Hurt Starks.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice Starks; and a brother, Everett Starks.
He was a retired superintendent with the City of Ashland Sanitation Department and retired as pastor of CME Corinith Church in Winchester, Ky., after 26 years. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Surviving are the love of his life, his girlfriend, Mary Keaton of New Boston; her four children, Lisa Chan of New Boston, William Keaton of Ashland, John Dowdy of Greenup County, Ky., and Elizabeth Hutchinson of Lexington, Ky.; and her 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three nieces.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. today, May 25, 2007, at Johnson Memorial CME Church in Ashland by the Rev. Aaron L. Moss.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. at the church. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.
Steen Funeral Home-Central Avenue Chapel in Ashland is in charge of arrangements.
