Mary C. Stewart, 95, of Ashland, died Thursday in Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility in Ashland. She was born Sept. 1, 1914, in Boyd County, to the late James Coburn and Dolly Proffitt Coburn. Her husband, Robert A. Stewart, preceded her in death in 1952.
She retired as a cook from Cannonsburg Elementary School. She was a member of Straight Creek Nazarene Church, where she played piano.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Coburn.
She is survived by a son, Robert A. (Melinda) Stewart Jr. of Ashland; a daughter, Sharon (Lonnie) Brumfield of Catlettsburg, Ky.; six grandchildren, Roger Coburn, Carol Sapone, Angela Maston, Robert A. Stewart III, Mary Pierce and Jessie Byre; 7 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 14, 2010, at Straight Creek Nazarene Church by the Rev. Harold Brown, the Rev. Randy Biggs and Pastor Mike Ratcliff. Interment will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. today, June 13, 2010, at Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.
