William Cyrus

CATLETTSBURG - William Arthur Cyrus, 77, of Catlettsburg, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at his home with his loving family at his side.

Mr. Cyrus was born July 15, 1937, in Boyd County, son of the late Carl W. and Gladys Roberts Cyrus. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Catherine; and a sister.

William retired from the maintenance department of the Boyd County Board of Education, the Boyd County Police Department and as fire chief and founding member of the Big Sandy Fire Department. He was a very giving man who loved helping others. He enjoyed gardening, was an avid UK fan and was a member of Oakland Baptist Independent Church.

William is survived by his wife of 26 years, Debra Fain Cyrus; sons Carl (Carol) Cyrus, William "Dunnie" (Debbie) Cyrus, Mike Jones, Jerry (Kelly) Holbrook and Levi (Laura) Pelfrey; grandchildren Kirsten, Gabe, Grace, Joshua, Elliot, Taylor, Jordan, Katy, Chris and Michael; and special family and friends, Charles Roberts (Mable), Marcella Farr, Linda Bell Boyles and Sue Farrell.

The funeral service for Mr. Cyrus will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Oakland Baptist Independent Church on Cannonsburg Road in Catlettsburg. Pastor Mike Miller and Brother Danny Brown will officiate. Final place of rest will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.

Visiting hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Neal Funeral Home in Catlettsburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice, 1480 Carter Ave., Ashland, KY 41101.
