William E. "Bill" Miller - 1934-2010
William E. "Bill" Miller, 75, of Flatwoods, Ky., formerly of Sumner County, Tenn., died Wednesday morning, March 24, 2010, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born July 31, 1934, in Ashland, a son of the late Cecil and Clara McGraw Miller.
In addition, he was preceded in death by brothers Ishmael Miller and Gary Miller and sisters Jean Dolen, Janice Menshouse and Nancy Haney.
He was the owner of Miller Homes and a builder in Sumner County, Tenn., for more than 40 years. He was an Army Korean War veteran. Bill was a very active member of the Old Union Church of Christ in Castilian Springs, Tenn., and Flatwoods Church of Christ in Flatwoods, Ky. He will long be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, and even during his last days he was still bringing comfort to others. While living in Tennessee, Bill remained an avid UK Wildcats fan. He loved fishing. Among others, his favorite lakes included Old Hickory Lake in Sumner County and Lake Fork in Texas. He was a self-taught artist and avid golfer. Seven months ago on the day of his diagnosis, he played 4 under par through the 15th hole during his last game at the Oaks Golf Course.
After three weeks of dating, he married his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Goodwin Miller of Flatwoods. Other survivors include a son, Dean Edward (Dawn Scyphers) Miller of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; daughters Connie Lynn Sirnio (Joe) Martinez of Fairfield, Calif., and Helen Catherine (Kenny) Sims of Goodlettsville; brothers Darrell Miller and Ricky Miller of Ashland; sisters Patricia Gail Hale, Brenda Dye and Vonnie Kellogg of Ashland; eight granddaughters, Shauna Sirnio, Courtney Sirnio Weber, Kelli Miller Smith, Misti Sims Gregory, Brittany Miller, Kayla Miller, Rachel Miller and Amanda Sirnio; five grandsons, Chad, Tom, Justin, Travis and Tony Sirnio; six great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Steen Funeral Home-13th Street Chapel in Ashland by John M. Brown, minister. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park in Ashland.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today, March 26, 2010, at the funeral home.
